Murray Arts is one of 14 Regional Arts Development Organisations (RADO) in the Regional Arts NSW network. We service the Border and North East Region and partner with six local government areas; AlburyCity, Greater Hume and Federation in NSW and City of Wodonga, Indigo and Towong in North East Victoria.Murray Arts believes in telling regional stories and sharing them. We believe our community has the capacity to produce great arts events, exhibitions and experiences. We work at a grass roots level, using cultural development principles to collaborate with communities and artists.One of Murray Arts key roles in the community is to support artists. We employ artists to work on our projects, giving them creative opportunities to develop and share their arts practice. We are always looking for new ways to build audiences, be creative and connect with our regional communities.We are the go-to-place for local Aboriginal Arts Development, which is a key priority area for Murray Arts. Our burraja gallery space supports and promotes Aboriginal artists and the sale of Aboriginal artworks, using a social enterprise model.

ABOUT BREAKWATER DEVELOPMENTBreakwater, shortlisted for two playwriting awards, is a fresh, feminist, theatre-in-education play about three rebellious teenagers skipping school to escape the perils of puberty while together finding a way to ride the waves of our uncertain times. Breakwater wrestles with the ups and downs of adolescence, shining a light on the importance of friendships with humour and heart. Through the GreenHouse National Artist Residency, Lisette Drew and Travis Dowling will perfect this play for the stage. This creative development is aimed at young theatre makers who want a real taste of what it is like to work a play from the page to the stage in a professional environment. This exciting opportunity will deepen the connections and learning experiences for both established and emerging artists, allowing the play to be drawn directly from the heart of young people. The team will workshop the play every afternoon and at the end of the week stage a reading for a small invited audience, celebrating the creation of a new play.Dates Intensive Theatre Workshop Days Sunday 30 Jan - 12 to 4pm Monday 31 Jan - 4pm to 8pm (Main characters will be cast) Additional Play Development Days - for main characters: Tuesday 1 to Friday 4 Jan - 4pm to 8pm Saturday 5 Feb - 10am to 5pm Rehearsals, Showing at 3pm for invited guests and community with a Q&amp;A post show.Age for Participants - 14 to 24What is commitment required of the participants Intensive Theatre Workshops on Sunday 30 and Monday 31 Jan are open to all participants.Those cast as main characters will be required to attend all other dates.Any participants who wish to continue to be a part of the creative process will be able to shadow the director/ dramaturg and take part in warmups and script discussions.Maximum number of participants - 15Please note that all participants will need to abide by the COVID-19 restrictions that will be in place for NSW &amp; VIC and that the workshops will be taking place in an Albury, venue TBC. She has worked on over 50 theatrical productions with major arts companies such as Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet and Melbourne Theatre Company. In 2020, her passion for writing came centre stage with her play being shortlisted for two playwriting awards, her novel longlisted for a manuscript prize, her short story published in a Lockdown Anthology and another short story commissioned by Melbourne City of Literature. Lisette shares her love for stories and storytelling running writing and theatre workshops for children.TRAVIS DOWLINGTravis is a theatre director and youth arts facilitator and from 2012 was Associate Director for Hothouse Theatre and lead artist for HotHouse’s Drama School, Studio Ensemble and Black Border Theatre. His credits for HotHouse include Between the Clouds, The Pyjama Girl, Letters from the Border, The Duck Variations, Macbeth Shoot/Get Treasure/Repeat.As former Associate Director for Queensland Theatre his directing credits include Antigone, The Shot, Six Hundred Ways to Filter a Sunset, Riley Valentine, Love and Information, Constellations (Young Artists’ Ensemble), This Hollow Crown and as Assistant Director, Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth and Thom Pain (based on nothing).He was also Associate Director for Melbourne Theatre Company’s Emerald City.His other directing credits include Supernatural, Romeo and Juliet Must Die, Versus, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Warning Small Parts, Heart fail (Grin and Tonic); Richard III (QUT); The Last Five Years (QPAC); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Backbone Youth Arts); Lazarus Won’t Get Out of Bed, Furious Angels (Metro Arts).Travis has had extensive experience facilitating workshops and programs and has facilitated with companies including Queensland Theatre, Hothouse Theatre, The Grin and Tonic Theatre Troupe, Sydney Theatre Company, ATYP, Backbone Youth Arts, QUT and USQ.
