Boro and Sashiko Workshop - Drawstring Pouch or Zipper Bag

unit 3/11 Forge ClSumner, QLD
Saturday, Feb 7, 2026 from 9 am to 1 pm AEST
Overview

Create a bespoke Boro (Japanese patchwork) Pouch or Bag using Sashiko (straight stitch embroidery) and learn all about visible mending.

Make either a standing- or flat wristlet zipper pouch or a modern drawstring bag, the complete kit is included in your class cost, option to purchase extra kits (including cushion covers) available at the studio.

Choose your background colour (beige, blue or yarn-dyed black linen) followed by embellishing patches from my collection of vintage and new Japanese cotton, silk and linen fabrics to match or contrast your background.

Learn about the Japanese technique of Sashiko stitching while being aware of principles such as up-cycling, respect for the discarded and slow stitching process to practice mindfulness and relaxation.

The hand-stitching is beginner-friendly, you will however need a sewing machine as well as some basic machine sewing skills to insert the zipper and finish the projects off, full instructions are provided in your workshop notes.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided.
