New ways to engage in the public realm: spatial practices embraces the political and the activist, the performative and the architectural.
About this event
In our current times of increasing crisis and anxiety, the relevance of more reflexive and fluid forms of spatial practice has never been more pertinent. Acting upon and engaging with the public realm, the field of spatial practices arguably allows people to reconnect with their own sense of agency through engagement in space and place, exploring and prototyping alternative futures in the here and now.
Join Mel Dodd (Professor, Art Design and Architecture, Monash University) in a discussion of her book, Spatial Practices: Modes of Action and Engagement with the City, with Rory Hyde, Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne.
About the book
This book explores ‘spatial practices’, a loose and expandable set of approaches that embrace the political and the activist, the performative and the curatorial, the architectural and the urban. Acting upon and engaging with the public realm, the field of spatial practices allows people to reconnect with their own sense of agency through engagement in space and place, exploring and prototyping alternative futures in the here and now.
