Bring your kids, your questions and your curiosity – this is a playful, hands‑on celebration of the brand new children’s book 'What Every Kid Needs To Know About FIFO: A–Z Edition ' and all the future careers our kids can dream up.

Registration is essential – places are limited and every child needs to be registered to receive their activities and take‑home gift bag.

Why families will love it

This relaxed, family‑friendly event brings the book to life with activities that let kids get up close to big machines, STEM ideas, caring roles and community jobs connected to FIFO and the resources industry. Kids get to explore “how the world works” in a way that feels fun, hopeful and age‑appropriate.

Throughout the book and activities, children see a wide mix of role models and families represented in meaningful careers, so more kids can spot “someone like me” in the story. The day is designed with primary‑aged children (around 5–10 years) in mind, but younger and older siblings are absolutely welcome, making it an easy way for the whole family to start (or continue) positive conversations about work, rosters and staying connected.

Who it’s perfect for

  • All families with kids who love trucks, machines, science, technology or “how things work” stories.
  • FIFO families wanting a gentle, practical way to explain rosters, travel and “missing” a family member.
  • Non‑FIFO families, teachers and librarians looking for Australian career/STEM stories that reflect real jobs kids see around them.
  • School and community partners interested in resources that support stronger families and brighter futures in mining communities.

What’s included on the day

  • Live book reading and Q&A with author Vicky Pellowe, with plenty of time for kids’ questions about FIFO, jobs and “future me” dreams.
  • Kid‑friendly STEM activity stations inspired by the A–Z characters and careers from the book (think future engineers, safety heroes, lego robots and much, much more).
  • A themed photo booth where kids can dress up as characters from the book or their future dream careers.
  • A cosy reading corner where every child can take a moment to explore the book at their own pace.
  • Colouring and simple activities for younger kids who like to dip in and out.
  • A take‑home gift bag for every child.

Copies of What Every Kid Needs To Know About FIFO: A–Z Edition will be available to purchase on the day at a special event price, with options for schools and libraries to order extra copies and classroom resources.

***STEM workshop facilitators and the full program schedule will be announced soon – keep an eye on your confirmation email and socials for the big reveal!***
