Join us for a special gathering at the heritage listed home built by John Büsst, Ninney Rise at Bingil Bay. Discover the life and work of John Büsst with acclaimed author and historian Iain McCalman in conversation with Dr Eddie Hegerl (Ellison Reef report 1967) and Charlie Veron (Godfather of Coral). Don't miss this unique opportunity to be inspired and celebrate the life of a remarkable individual who triggered North Queensland's conservation movement with the successful battles to save the now World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics. Dr Kerry Foxwell Norton will introduce  Emeritus Professor Iain McCalman to  launch  the John Busst  biography  in conversation with Dr Eddie Hegerl (Ellison Reef report) and Dr Charlie Veron (Godfather of Coral).

BOOK LAUNCH  - IN CONVERSATION

For millennia, the  cassowary has relied on its brightly coloured neck and large black body as an effective camouflage to  avoid altercations with other members of the solitary species  within the dappled light of the rainforest.  The depletion and fragmentation of a once solid block of  connected  tropical forests  has forced cassowaries into the open. No longer invisible  but still needing to travel large distances to access their diminishing food sources the cassowary is changing its behaviour.

Lunch is provided  in the grounds of Ninney Rise.

LUNCH 

Natural Resource manager  and former  Port Douglas Mayor, Mike Berwick will facilitate a  panel of guests  including Traditional Owners, leaders  in conservation, planning, natural resource management, and tourism. The guests will present their reasons to have hope for the future of the Wet Tropics' reefs and forests.
