About this event

Would you like to take a break, head for the tranquil Blue Mountains weekend and learn the mindful art of Kintsugi ?

Kintsugi is a century-old Japanese craftwork where broken ceramic objects are pieced back together using lacquer and gold dust based on the philosophy of Wabi Sabi finding beauty in imperfection.
The process transforms much loved, worn items into a beautifully crafted, new piece of art. It is a chance to live a more sustainable way and to rescue objects which would otherwise be discarded.

In this 4 hours step by step hands-on workshop, you will learn the fundamental skill of Art Kintsugi method, following the principal of ancient Kintsugi utilising more accessible alternative materials (such as resin and gold metal) which enable us to complete the process within the class and safely.

At the end of the class, you will take home a piece of your own Kintsugi art and will be able to continue your practise to repair your own item at home.

Please note...

As this is a small group workshop, booking is essential.
Class is suitable over 18 years old.
Not suitable for pregnant person
You will be repairing a ceramic piece we will prepare for the workshop.

About venue

Gang Gang Gallery https://gggallery.com.au/about/

Gang Gang Gallery is housed in the heritage space of the Old Refreshments building of the Theatre Royal on Main Street Lithgow. After being purchased 2012, the building has taken on a major development and transformed into what it is today, a contemporary gallery and function space. that has still maintained traditional 1900s features to emphasis the blend of old and new. Working with local interior and timber artist Damian Howard, the gallery has been designed to host exhibitions of artists in the light filled main space and along with a permanent collection of glassware, porcelain, timber and iron work. Gang Gang has an earnest and growing connection with the local community and aims to embrace the future of the Blue Mountains whilst paying tribute to its past.
