About this event

Welcome to the Black Cockatoo Exhibition Fundraiser! Join us at Studio 281 Picture Framers on Saturday 18th May for VIP morning for a unique event showcasing beautiful photos of black tail cockatoos by Willem Heyneker. This fundraiser aims to support the conservation efforts of these endangered birds. Exhibition dates 18th May - 26th May 2024
Willem Heyneker’s interest in photography was ignited when he needed to take images of his jewellery for magazines, articles, and exhibitions. He has always been interested in wildlife and conservation through his upbringing in Sri Lanka where his uncle was a well-known naturalist and zoologist.
He feels a strong connection to nature and the act of photography brings this all close to his heart. The excitement never leaves him as he always expects the unexpected. He loves coming home to bring the images to life through post-processing. This is to enhance rather than detract from the image through minimal interference of the natural beauty as he likes to keep it as close to nature as possible. Hence his passion to bring the plight of endangered Red and Whitetail cockatoos to the general public's awareness.
The Black Cockatoo exhibition will consist of photographic images that he has taken showcasing these wonderful birds in their natural habitat. He has spent considerable time going to various locations, including around his home in Darlington, where they feed on the Marri and Sheaok nuts preening themselves and each other. This has given him a window of opportunity to see their behavioural patterns close up. This is what he wants for you, too.
Willem is fundraising for Dean Arthurell, Carnaby Crusaders, and Clint Connor, Vitabunda to create awareness and education around these amazing birds. There is a VIP event at the opening followed by workshops on both weekends for a gold coin donation.
This event is being sponsored by Demeter Wealth, Camera House Midland, Perth Hills Events, Unfold Your Freedom and Mr Matthew Hughes MLA.
