Overview

Join current Artist in Residence Tahlia Henderson for a free, family-friendly drop-in session celebrating collage and birdlife at Carss Park.

During this activity, families will be introduced to the creative world of collage, inspired by birds and the natural surroundings of Carss Park. Children will create their own unique collage artwork to take home. Each participating family will also receive a specially designed bird-watching booklet, created by the artist to complement your visit to Carss Park. Use the booklet to explore the park, identify the featured birds, and complete engaging self-guided games and activities together.

Important information:
Each ticket is for a family group of 1 child (plus carer/s). This is a free drop-in activity with a maximum capacity of 25 children (plus carers) at any one time. If the session reaches capacity, visitors will be asked to queue until places become available. Carers must remain with their children at all times. Your RSVP indicates interest and assists with planning; it does not guarantee a place in the session.

About the artist:

Tahlia Henderson is a landscape painter working from bushland found on Gadigal Country and surrounding areas. She currently lives and works on Wangal Country in Sydney’s Inner West. Since completing her Visual Arts degree at Sydney College of Arts (2012-2014), Tahlia has developed a distinctive watercolour practice, capturing the diversity of ecosystems she encounters while walking through bushland. She works from photographs taken on site, later constructing scene-specific compositions in the studio.

Her detailed landscapes are set against stark black backgrounds, reflecting an awareness of place and belonging. As a descendant of Scottish immigrants, Tahlia acknowledges that connection to this land belongs to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their Elders, and culture.

Tahlia has been a finalist in the Paddington Art Prize (2022) and the Blacktown Art Prize (2024), and recently presented her first solo exhibition, ‘Scenes from Gadigal and Surrounds’.
