Join acclaimed nature photographer Angela Robertson-Buchanan for a hands-on bird photography walk through Powells Creek, leading to the bird hides at Sydney Olympic Park.
This immersive workshop is a guided walk-and-photography experience designed for photographers who want to deepen their bird photography skills through real-world observation, movement, and anticipation.
Angela brings a wealth of experience to the field. She is a judge for the Australian Birdlife Photography Awards and has been a multiple finalist in the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year. Her passion for birds and deep understanding of their behaviour makes this a truly insightful and engaging workshop.
Birds commonly seen on route to the bird hides are Splendid fairy wrens, Silvereyes, Red-browed finch, Kookaburra, Brush turkey, Magpies, Ibis, Egret, White-faced heron. On the water you may spot Pelicans, Black swans, Ducks and other migratory shorebirds like Black-winged stilts & Bar-tailed godwits.
Recommended Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Please note:
A selection of Nikon Z series cameras and NIKKOR Z lenses will be available for trial during the session, along with a Nikon representative to answer your questions.

What to Bring:
- Mirrorless or DSLR Camera (Does not need to be a Nikon camera)
- Fully charged or spare camera batteries
- Spare memory cards
- Lenses (with the longest focal length you have).
- Tripod/monopod (optional - can use these at the bird hides)
- Your camera's instruction manual
- Insect repellent
- Bottle of water.
- Mat (e.g. yoga/camp) or old towel - optional for lying down.
- Comfortable walking shoes & hat.
- If raining: bring a raincoat, camera or lens rain covers (or if you don’t have any, bring plastic zip lock bags big enough to cover the camera and lens).
Note: If your Nikon camera is SnapBridge compatible, please bring along your mobile device with the SnapBridge application already installed.
