Biennial After Dark
Event Information
About this event
Presented in association with the Art Gallery of South Australia and with generous support from SA Power Networks.
Explore thought-provoking artworks under moonlit skies on an intimate guided tour through Adelaide Botanic Garden.
Two sessions available - 5:30pm to 7:30pm and 7:30pm to 9:30pm
Cost - $28 including a drink on arrival (plus Eventbrite fees)
The tour starts at the iconic Bicentennial Conservatory, where you’ll be greeted with a drink on arrival (included in ticket price) and welcome talk from the Curator of Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of South Australia, and curator of the 2020 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art: Monster Theatres, Leigh Robb.
You’ll hear from artist Mark Valenzuela as he discusses his work displayed in the Conservatory, and gaze upon the mechanical magic of Mike Candy’s installation in the same glasshouse.
The guided tour will take you through the night-time garden (an experience in itself!) to the 145 year old Palm House to experience more of Mark Valenzuela’s work, mythological-inspired ceramic sculptures.
You will also have a chance to discover Yhonnie Scarce’s glass sculptures in the eerie, history-steeped Deadhouse and learn how her work addresses colonisation in South Australia.
The tour will conclude at the Santos Museum of Economic Botany where you’ll hear from artist, Julia Robinson, as she draws you into the story of ‘Beatrice’, which is based on the fascinating folklore story, ‘Rappaccini’s Daughter’.
Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity, a taste of what’s to come as we slowly welcome back the Botanica Lumina program of night-time events, allowing visitors to experience the garden in a new way. More events on the Botanica Lumina schedule will be announced later this year.
