Bhagavad Gita:
JOIN the exploration of a spiritual classic that's enriched cultures throughout Asia over the centuries and inspired leading figures in modern times from Mohandas Gandhi, Albert Einstein, Carl Jung, and Aldous Huxley to astronaut Sunita Williams who took a copy of the Bhagavad Gita to the international space station.

We're dipping into Swami Ranganathananda’s 3-volume commentary: Universal Message of the Bhagavad Gita. The late President of the Ramakrishna Order, the Swami, was a world thinker and cultural ambassador for India, sponsored by the Government to travel to over 50 countries around the world, giving lectures.

WE'RE CONTINUING STUDY OF CHAPTER 15 - THE WAY TO THE SUPREME SPIRIT - VERSES 6 - 7

Themes for Discussion:

THE LIGHT THAT SHINES WITHIN: Mystics from many faiths share a profound experience. They describe being bathed in divine light. This intensely blissful state arises from deep meditation and prayer. That is the Light that shines within all. It is a manifestation of pure Consciousness.

CHILDREN OF IMMORTALITY: The Upanishadic scriptures boldly declare that we are ‘children of immortality.’ In deep meditation, sages uncovered our divine inheritance. Our body is a ‘child of mortality’, but there is a Divine dimension within that never dies. Our challenge and destiny are to unfold and manifest our divinity. This lifts us beyond weakness and fear, immersing us in peace and joy.

WE ARE FREE: To believe we are bound is to remain ‘as a creature on this earth.’ We are not meant to be just creatures. We are meant to be free. Freedom is our birthright. We needn’t be confined or shaped by external forces. Part of us lies beyond dogmas and creeds, transcending all opinions and ideologies. There, originality and creativity flourish, fresh and vital. When Buddha realised this truth, he exclaimed: “I am enlightened, I am free, I am free.”

THE SUBTLE BODY & REINCARNATION: ‘Behind this gross body there is a subtle body and a causal body which is extremely subtle; and the causal and the subtle bodies go together. So, when death takes place, what happens? They [the ancient sages] discovered that the gross physical body alone is shed at the time of death. The subtle body continues; its dying time is not the same as that of the physical body. It is very subtle, and so it seeks a new body and reincarnates to continue its evolution toward fulfilment or perfection.’
