Event description

Description

Featuring live performances by the incandescent MZAZA, Queensland’s award-winning group of cultural refugees from Bosnia, Latvia, Greece, Turkey, France and Australia, BEMAC LIVE: CULTIVATE is the climax of a two-day intensive workshop delivered by BEMAC and MZAZA’s Greta Kelly and Pauline Maudy for women and non-binary persons of migrant and refugee backgrounds.

The CULTIVATE program is designed to help build supportive networks, provide potential for songwriting collaborations and build skills and confidence for participants. Led by Pauline Maudy and Greta Kelly, who have a passion for world music and believe music has the capacity to heal and sustain people through difficult times, CULTIVATE is being held in celebration of Queensland Women’s Week and International Women’s Day.

With a fascination for making something new from the old, MZAZA’s writers and musicians flamboyantly craft their own set of traditions from a tapestry of richly woven influences born in France, the Balkans, Middle East and Sephardic Spain.

Don’t miss this enchanting performance featuring MZAZA and a special collaboration by participants of this year’s CULTIVATE program.

Venue opens 6.30pm, performances from 7pm. Food available on the night.
