Behind The Glass Collection Tour

Overview

Visible Art Storage at TarraWarra Museum of Art

Step beyond the gallery and into the heart of TarraWarra Museum of Art’s permanent Collection.

The TarraWarra Museum of Art Collection is one of Australia’s most significant collections of modern and contemporary art, spanning from the 1930s to today. Established through the generous donation of more than 600 artworks by founding patrons Eva Besen AO and the late Marc Besen AC, the Collection continues to grow and evolve.

The Behind the Glass Tour invites you to step inside the heart of TarraWarra’s Collection. Led by a member of the Museum team, this guided experience offers rare access to our Visible Storage, an innovative display system featuring 64 art storage racks positioned behind a 46-metre-long glass wall. More than an exhibition, it’s a living archive where you can encounter a curated selection of rarely seen works by some of Australia’s most celebrated artists including Fred Williams, Rosalie Gascoigne, Brett Whiteley, Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Patricia Piccinini and John Olsen, all while gaining insight into how collections are preserved, cared for and displayed.

Tour times:
Every Thursday and Saturday at 11.00am, 12.30pm, 2.00pm and 3.30pm.
(Additional tours run on Fridays during exhibition changeover periods when the Museum galleries are closed.)
Duration: Approximately 45 minutes
Age: 16+ only (including infants and prams)
Accessibility: The Eva and Marc Besen Centre is wheelchair accessible. Please contact us in advance with any access requirements.
