About this event

Straight from our bees

One of the benefits of keeping bees is having an ongoing supply of fragrant fresh beeswax. This beautiful buttery substance has been used for candle making for thousands of years and is still considered by many to produce the purist, cleanest, brightest candle. Our wax is cleaned and rendered by us into pure beeswax that is ideal for making candles.

What you will learn

In this workshop we will cover:

  • The properties and benefits of beeswax
  • How beeswax is produced in the hive
  • How to clean and render wax from the hive
  • Choosing wicks, moulds, wax and wax foundation sheets
  • How to make candles using moulds
  • How to roll candles from wax foundation sheets
  • How to make dipped candles
  • Tips for storing, melting and managing your wax
  • Entering your wax and candles in shows

What you can expect

This course is run in the gardens at the Woopi Bee Shed, in a covered outdoor space. The aim is to be creative in a relaxed outdoor setting. Participants are advised to wear flat covered shoes and clothes that can get messy.

This workshop will mix theory and practical work, and you will get to take home the candles you make. The course fee covers making approximately 4 to 8 candles (depending on size chosen). All equipment needed will be provided. We will focus on candles for Christmas

Group size

We keep the group size small for these workshops to enable maximum participation and access to equipment.

Catering

A light morning tea will be provided. After the workshop we suggest you try one of the many great eateries in Woopi for a meal.

Parking

There is plenty of street parking available at this time of day in Hawke Drive.
