About this event

European Honey Bees have been domesticated by humans for thousands of years, and used for pollination and honey production. They are a great addition to your garden, but like all livestock they need care and attention. If you want to gain an insight into what is really involved in beekeeping, come along to this free introductory session.

Content

In this session we cover bee care and maintenance; pests and diseases; the legalities of keeping bees; beekeeping jargon; the layout of a hive; beekeeping equipment and gear; types of hives; how to get your first bees; and a range of other topics.

The session is run outdoors, and includes viewing of operational hives, and a hands-on look at the basic tools and equipment needed to get started as a beekeeper.

A light afternoon tea will be provided that will include an opportunity to taste a variety of local honeys.

Our presenter

Local beekeeper, Glenn Locke will be presenting this workshop. Glenn is a commercial beekeeper operating a number of apiaries in the mid-north coast.
