Be Connected is a free Australian Government initiative helping older adults to get the most out going online.

The Basics

Join us to get to grips with the absolute basics of getting online. We define and compare the differences between different technologies like laptops, tablets and mobile phones, then take our first steps in using our gear, getting comfortable using the keyboard, touch screen and mouse, and basic settings on a computer.

BYO mobile device if you have one.


Be Connected gives older adults an opportunity to participate in fun, free learning sessions that will increasing their confidence, skills, and knowledge to get online using everyday technology such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and computers.

There is a broad range of topics on offer from learning the absolute basics, getting to know your devices and how to get started online, to connecting with family, online hobbies such as researching your family history and most importantly, how to stay safe online.

State Library of Queensland is part of the Be Connected network and will deliver Be Connected learning session’s onsite Wednesdays and Fridays from 10.00am till 12.30pm, morning tea will be included. Each month we will focus on different learning topics and you can book into as many sessions as you like.

Be Connected Learning Program can help you learn:

  • the basics and realise the full potential of going online

  • to be safe while you’re online

  • how you can use tecnology to talk to or see family and friends who live far away

  • how you can find new or old friends who share your interests and hobbies

  • to keep up-to-date with what’s happening in your community and around the world

  • how to shop online, safely and securely, without leaving home.

Late July - Safety first & Wi-fi- networks

Early August - Socialising online (Facebook and video chatting)

Late August - Shopping, viewing and listening online.

Early September - All about apps and online hobbies.
