Balance the Scales: Menopause – Imbalance Hiding in Plain Sight
A powerful film, courageous conversations, and real connection this International Women’s Day.
Balance the Scales: Menopause – Imbalance Hiding in Plain Sight
This International Women’s Day, I am thrilled to invite you to an afternoon that brings menopause out of the shadows and into the conversation where it belongs.
Balance the Scales: Menopause – Imbalance Hiding in Plain Sight is a powerful and intimate event for women, men, and family members who want to understand this transition in all its variations.
The afternoon begins with the screening of The (M) Factor 2: Before the Pause (Perimenopause), an international documentary that exposes the hidden reality of perimenopause through the lived experiences of women whose symptoms are dismissed, misunderstood, or ignored. From classrooms to fire stations to doctors’ consulting rooms, the film reveals why early awareness matters for women’s health, careers, and sense of self.
Following the screening, guests will gather in the garden for a relaxed and nourishing experience, including a glass of wine from Larnook Wines, a generous grazing table, light hors d’oeuvres, and a facilitated panel discussion with audience Q&A.
Together, we will explore why menopause is not just a personal experience, but a systemic issue hiding in plain sight.
We will unpack three critical imbalances affecting women everywhere
Homelessness
Menopause does not cause homelessness, but it intensifies vulnerability. Relationship breakdown, family and domestic violence, employment loss, low superannuation, and unexpected health events collide during this life stage, placing Generation X women among the fastest-growing homeless cohorts in Australia.
Health
Declining estrogen significantly increases the risk of dementia, heart disease, osteoporosis, autoimmune conditions, obesity, and serious mental health challenges. Yet women remain under-researched, under-diagnosed, and too often told their symptoms are stress, ageing, or “just part of being a woman”.
Workplaces
Highly skilled women are exiting the workforce during their peak earning years due to a lack of awareness, flexibility, and support. The economic cost is enormous, but the personal cost to women’s confidence, security, and wellbeing is even greater.
Our inspiring panel includes
- Claire, Physiotherapist and founder of Olive and Bee, sharing her journey of making a difference in women’s intimate health
- Alexia (Lexi), Founder and Director of Larnook Wines, speaking to the reality of perimenopause alongside business ownership
- Gemma, Founder of Hidden Gem, sharing her lived experience of breast cancer, medically induced menopause, and running a business
- Amelia, Founder and Producer of Peri-M Party, and creator of an upcoming documentary exploring the connection between perimenopause and brain health
- Leanne, CEO of the Eastwood Community Centre, with a career spanning farming, technology, leadership, and sharing her own midlife journey
- Megan, Event Host, The Menopause Concierge®, founder of Mimi Moon Meno, workplace menopause trainer and coach, licensed Menopause Expert Professional, published author, and sought-after speaker on all things menopause
We are also delighted to introduce Gianna, event photographer and founder of Velvet Thyme, whose work captures women with honesty, dignity, and depth.
This event may also contribute to a future local documentary, offering attendees the opportunity to be part of a broader storytelling movement.
This is an afternoon for connection, courage, education, and shared understanding.
Because balancing the scales for women means talking about the bleeding obvious.
