Full Day 08:30 - 17:00
Compression therapy plays a central role in the management of venous disease, lymphoedema, and chronic oedema. Avoidable Harm: Wrap It Up! is a comprehensive full-day workshop designed to strengthen clinical confidence, enhance decision-making, and support safe, effective compression practice in complex lower limb presentations. The morning session, led by Stacey Bradshaw (Australian Institute of Lymphoedema), will provide a concise overview of the phases of wound healing, highlighting the reality that many chronic wounds stall in the inflammatory phase. Systemic and local factors influencing healing, including medication, nutrition, co-morbidities, lifestyle factors, and oedema, will be explored to reinforce the importance of multidisciplinary care. The focus will centre on structured lower limb assessment and establishing the clinical foundations necessary to optimise healing outcomes.
The afternoon session will focus on practical compression management, with particular attention to lower limb chronic oedema and wounds. Participants will explore strategies to enhance compression selection, application, and follow-up, supporting patient comfort, adherence, and long-term success. The role of compression in supporting healing and helping reduce recurrence will be discussed within the context of everyday clinical practice. The program integrates practical, hands-on guidance in measuring for compression wraps, Comfiwave, and hosiery, and explores differences between garment categories, including flat knit and circular knit systems, across reduction and maintenance phases of care. Emphasis will be placed on clinical reasoning, appropriate garment selection, and collaborative care to support sustained outcomes. Designed for nurses working in community, wound care, and aged care settings, as well as certified lymphoedema therapists seeking to strengthen their knowledge in wound healing and compression management, this workshop supports safe, evidence-informed compression practice and long-term patient success. Learning
Objectives: By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Recognise key factors influencing wound healing and the impact of chronic oedema on lower limb outcomes.
- Identify practical considerations that support safe and effective compression therapy in complex presentations.
- Apply evidence-informed principles when selecting, measuring, and managing compression across reduction and maintenance phases.
Catering will be provided.
CPD hours available.
