Author Talk with Ruth Brunner - Uniquely You [Bunbury]
Join an inspiring talk on embracing your difference and belonging from within. Uniquely You: What If Your Difference Is Your Greatest Gift?
As part of the Bunbury Public Libraries’ Literacy Festival, this reflective, story-led author talk with Ruth Brunner explores what it means to grow up feeling different and how the stories we absorb about ourselves can quietly shape our sense of worth.
Date: Saturday 11 April
Time: 10am - 11.30am
Location: Bunbury Public Library – Parkfield Street, Bunbury
Drawing on lived experience and readings from Uniquely You, Ruth invites audiences to reconsider how labels, setbacks and moments of rupture may hold unexpected insight. Through the metaphor of kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, Ruth explores how scars can become part of a stronger, more meaningful whole.
Rather than offering a simple narrative of resilience, this session opens a broader conversation about literacy in its widest sense: the ability to read our own stories differently, and to question the assumptions we’ve carried about who we are.
Time is included for reflection and audience conversation.
About the festival:
The City of Bunbury Public Libraries presents the inaugural Literacy Festival, a vibrant, community-focused celebration of reading, writing and storytelling. Across 12 days and 21 events, the festival will bring stories to life through interactive storytelling, inspiring author talks, creative writing workshops, drawing sessions, family-friendly activities and literacy-focused programs for all ages.
The festival promotes essential lifelong literacy skills while showcasing local authors and illustrators. Free or low-cost and open to all, the festival reinforces that literacy is for everyone.
