This is the sign up page for Medical Practitioners, Registered Nurses and Paramedics.

The Aussies are being held in Perth and we need your help! AM and PM shifts are available through the various competitions.

  • Youth Championship 14 – 15 April
  • Ocean Swim 15 April
  • Masters Championship 16 – 17 April
  • Open Championship 18 – 22 April
  • Board Riding 16 – 20 April

Water, Beach and Boat events are held at Scarborough Beach. All medical positions indicated are based in the main medical centre at Scarborough Beach.

Minimum Requirements

Nurses: Current Registered Nurse (or higher) (in Australia)

Doctors: Current Registered Medical Practitioner (in Australia)

Paramedics: Paramedic (or ICP/CCP) with current Australian Authority to Practice on an emergency ambulance with a State Ambulance Service (including SJA WA / NT @ Paramedic Level)

We welcome assistance from other allied health professionals including sports therapists, physiotherapists and enrolled nurses, however please note the scope of practice as outlined below. Unless dual qualified with a qualification as identified above allied health professionals will operate as ‘first aiders’.

Scope of Practice/Role

The role of the medical and first aid team at The Aussies is to assist competitors, officials and spectators with the assessment and treatment of acute injuries and illnesses. Due to the nature of the event exacerbations of chronic disease also present for treatment. No charge can be made for services and this is an unpaid, volunteer role.

The medical team is not responsible for sports strapping or physiotherapy which is the responsibility of each competitor club. Allied Health Professionals are encouraged to volunteer, however scope of practice is limited to emergency care due to insurance coverage.

Various roles will be allocated including:

  • Competition arena response teams
  • Medical centre team
  • Rapid response / transport team

Equipment

All equipment will be provided. Volunteers should not bring their own equipment.

Shift Times

Shift times are indicated on the sign up page. Note that some beach events do not start until late afternoon and go on into the evening. Whole and half-day shifts are available for most areas.

Transport

Volunteers are required to make their own way to and from the medical centre at Scarborough. Car parking details and shuttle buses will be announced by SLSA.
