Aunty Robynne Nelson –‘Dunupna Dreaming’ - Cultural Competency - Wangaratta
Robynne Nelson delivers a highly informative and valuable session on Cultural Competency in Aboriginal Health
The Going Rural Health team at the University of Melbourne Department of Rural Health invites all nursing and allied health students to participate in a One-Day Aboriginal cultural learning journey with Aunty Robynne Nelson, a Yorta Yorta/Djaara woman with over 40 years’ experience including nursing, consultancy, management, community development, governance and cultural education.
Aunty Robynne takes a holistic approach that brings together cultural competency, cultural capability and cultural safety and what these mean in the health and wellbeing sectors. This journey will enhance your awareness, knowledge and skills, and prepare you for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, in a more culturally safe and effective way.
Nursing and allied health university and health service staff are also welcome to attend.
Aunty Robynne has been providing this training across Victoria and a range of sectors and including for University of Melbourne Department of Rural Health, with consistent and exceptional evaluations from all those who attend. In 2023 she received a Victoria Police Commissioners award for the provision of this training to Police officers over the last 27 years.

By the end of day together, participants will have a greater understanding of:
- The Past, the Present and the Way Forward.
- Why it is important to consider cultural identity, differences and needs.
- The ways that you can make a difference and develop personal strategies.
