Today’s society expects a higher level of engagement with the world around them, including their history. Using augmented reality matches this expectation with a tool they relate and are comfortable with; their mobile device. Augmented reality can bring the past to life in a quick easy way that is accessible at the point of interest. It engages those that would not otherwise be engaged, opening up new audiences. Creators can utilise collections which cannot be permanently displayed in the traditional way, giving viewing time to items even when they are in cupboards. Augmented Reality adds magic that does meet expectations. At this talk you'll hear from Kerrie Shaw, Newcastle Libraries' Heritage Collections Digitisation Specialist, about forthcoming AR projects including AR content to the ANZAC memorial walk and another project in development around the 1989 earthquake. --This event is being run by Newcastle Libraries as part of the 2019 Hunter Innovation Festival.
