About this event
Join this live session for an interactive Q&A on observing with ATCA, and to be certified as a new observer. This is aimed to equip people with the basic knowledge to conduct ATCA observing, with detailed support provided via their allocated Observing Expert (OE).
It is required to review pre-recorded training content prior to joining this session, as it will focus on answering remaining questions or demonstrating particular aspects of the system.
For this session, ATCA will be in the following state:
- Array configuration: 6A
- Correlator mode: 1 MHz continuum
Prior to joining the session, it is necessary that you:
- Watch the introductory training video: https://youtu.be/J1euX_zFIe0
- Completed all necessary steps to become an observer
- Read Chapters 1-3 of the ATUG
- Set up remote observing with ATCA on your computer
- Read through the ATCA Competency Checklist
- [optional] Create a CABB schedule to be used for a practice setup
Please ensure you have completed the above steps, otherwise you will not be able to be certified as an observer.
Note: this session is currently in an experimental phase as part of the transition to the new ATNF Observing Expert model. The process of becoming an experienced and competent observer takes time, and it is expected that those attending will take the initiative to further their learning beyond this session (e.g. by studying other system setups, following up with questions, and requesting green time to practice setting up the array in their own time). Feedback from participants is very welcome to help improve future sessions.
