Art Workshop: Coiled Basketry with Natural Fibres
An introduction to creating your own coiled basket using natural fibres
Using plants gathered from the garden and raffia, you will learn how to harvest, store and prepare materials so that they can be used to create a small basket using the coiling technique. In this 3 hour workshop, you will learn various techniques for starting the spiral and, using different stitches, learn how to build and shape your own basket. Suitable for all abilities, all materials will be supplied. Remember that this craft is a slow process, and if you do not finish in the three hours, you will be given enough fibre to finish at home.
This workshop is facilitated by Lisa Stevenson. Lisa is a multidisciplinary artist based on unceded Ngunnawal land, just outside the ACT. Sharing her passion for basketry and the sustainable use of natural materials, Lisa delivers workshops on various basketry techniques. She holds a degree in visual arts from the Australian National University and has exhibited in Canberra and interstate.
Designed for ages 10+. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent/carer. This is a Free event, however spaces are limited. Secure your spot by registering now.
If you have any access, or support requirements in order to participate fully, please let us know to ensure that we can arrange any reasonable adjustments. Contact: Cultural.Services@qprc.nsw.gov.au
