Art Exhibition - '89 Days'
Date and time
Description
The “89 days” exhibition is a collection of new artworks from some of Western Australia’s best contemporary artists. The exhibition is a visual response to the poems and passages written by the Irish political prisoners (the Fenians) during the journey of the final convict ship to arrive in Australia, the Hougoumont, which landed in Fremantle on January 10th 1867.
While the literature that has inspired this exhibition was created on the journey to Fremantle, which lasted 89 days, it is the remarkable escape stories from Western Australia to the United States of several of the Fenians that has established the Fenian legend here in Western Australia.
