DAY ONE - Arm Balance Fundamentals
Saturday, 4th May | 1pm - 3.30pm
This class is all about building strength, confidence and setting a strong foundation to feel secure during arm balances.
Some advanced arm balances take strength, flexibility, patience and practice to move in and out of. Quite often we don’t know where to begin with challenging Asanas, and the answer is to start at the beginning.
Beginning with a warm up we will transition into drills and conditioning to prepare for these poses. We will be breakdown the key components of these poses and learn how to enter and exit safely.
This class will cover:
- Crow
- Side Crow
- Firefly
- Finger stand
- Crane
- Flying Pigeon
We will use props, partner work, wall work and freestanding work to assist on this journey and adapt these poses to your practice needs
DAY TWO – Arm Balance Progressions
Sunday, 5th May | 1pm - 3.30pm
Building on from the knowledge of the Arm Balance fundamentals, this workshop is aimed at building your arm balance practice and beginning to move towards more advanced postures and their variations. In this workshop we will be working towards some of the more complex arm balance postures such as :
- Peacock
- Grasshopper
- Sage's pose A&B
- Lifting Lotus
- Lifting Tortoise
- Om
Beginning with a warm up we will transition into drills and conditioning to prepare for these poses. Breakdown the key components of these postures and learn how to safely progress into and hold these postures.
Bring an open mind and playful heart! We recommend an early breakfast or a light lunch on the day!
About Your Facilitator
Nicolas Smith
E-RYT 500 YACEP
Nick Smith is an international yoga teacher who has over a decade of yoga teaching experience, as well as a long history in professional sports and movement. He has a strong foundation in postural alignment and execution, and believes that focus and attention to detail in a yoga practice creates a strong connection between the practitioner and the yoga itself.
He has trained under various Senior Teachers with the emphasis being on competition training, postural alignment, and understanding of the body’s movements.
Nick competed in the Australian Masters Games in 2023, and won Gold for Yoga Sport. He also competed in the USA Yoga competition in 2014, where he placed 12th in the United States.
