That's today's normal greeting. Do you relate?
Graham Allcott is visiting Australia and NZ (from the UK) in November to share his ideas around being a Productivity Ninja and getting "Beyond Busy". Graham is an entrepreneur, author, speaker and podcaster.
He is the founder of Think Productive, one of the world’s leading providers of personal productivity training and consultancy, with offices in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and the Netherlands.
Graham is the author of three books, including the global best-seller "How to be a Productivity Ninja", and has recently launched a new podcast "Beyond Busy" which explores the issues of productivity, work/life balance and how people define happiness in their lives. He profiles interesting people from Olympic gold medallists to tech entrepreneurs to clowns.
About this event
This is an opportunity to meet Graham and also hear him talk about getting "Beyond Busy". He will be discussing:
issues around work life balance
practical tips to feel more balanced
how to create the environment for work life balance
how to stop "being busy" as a badge of honour
We will be serving drinks and nibbles and there will also be time after the event for networking and additional conversations with Graham.
In Graham's words....
"Work-life balance is a weird piece of terminology, when you think about it. Balancing on what? Balancing each other out? What, completely equally?! It just feels so ill-defined. And likewise in terms of managing stress or responsibilities, you have one brain, which you take to work and then take back home again, so the idea that you won’t think about work when you’re at home or think about your homelife when you should be working is a fallacy. Not to mention the fact that ‘work-life balance’ assumes that work is bad and life is good, and whilst we all have times where both feel wonderful and in flow, there are times where both feel lousy too.
So here’s what I’m preferring to focus on these days, instead: the elimination of ‘busy’. Busy is no badge of honour. Busy means a lack of control or purpose. So if I feel “busy”, I know I need to change something. Sometimes it means I need to lighten my schedule, but often is just means I need to lighten my mind. “Busy” is as much a feeling and a mindset as anything else. You can feel much less stressed – and much less busy – just by working in a more purposeful way, and regaining control over your choices. Overloaded is not the same as overwhelmed. For me that means using daily and weekly checklists to review my second brain and check I’m on track, mindfulness practices to help ground me back in reality, and sometimes even just lowering my own expectations so that I’m embracing the human being, not just the human doing."
