Event description

Description

How much do our urban places need to change to accomodate increased residential density? This talk will explore the potential of converting old industrial buildings for new residential uses whilst retaining the character and scale of our streets and spaces.

Stefanie Hughes is an associate at SJB Architects and will discuss her Cleveland & Co project, a residential conversion of two adjacent industrial buildings in Surry Hills. She works across a wide range and scale of projects with a particular interest in boutique multi-residential and adaptive re-uses projects. With a strong design focus Stefanie thrives in the early stages of a projects conception and planning.

Architect Kieran McInerney will speak about his award-winning Egan Street project in Newtown, a collaborative financing, design and building effort to develop low-rise high density housing within a former panel beating shop. He has worked in Sydney and London on a range of housing types for private, public, affordable, co-housing, housing association and housing cooperative clients.

Curated and introduced by local architects Sam Rigoli, Michael Zanardo, Casey Bryant and Lisa Merkesteyn, the Architecture on Show talks are presented by the Inner West Council in association with the Australian Institute of Architects. The Architecture on Show talk series aims to promote the value of architecture and design to the community, focussing on topics of local relevance, using local places and projects to illustrate concepts and ideas.
