About this event

  • 1 day 6 hours

Immerse yourself in the world of etching. Discover how the old masters made their marks and unlock your own creative possibilities with copper plate etching. You will explore the techniques of hard ground and soft ground, and experiment with different mark marking, drawing and printing methods. Be guided by our expert printers to print a beautiful limited edition etching.

The course covers plate preparation and the application of grounds, plate processing, and paper preparation. Participants will learn the correct use of an etching press and registration techniques to print their own original print.

For the two-day duration of the course, APW will provide all materials needed (including inks, copper plates, paper, printing materials etc). Participants will create an image up to a maximum of 12cm x 18cm in size. We recommend bringing along image ideas, sketches, drawings, photos, etc that are relevant to the graphic nature of the medium. Preliminary image ideas can be discussed with your class tutor on the day, who can assist you in articulating your image.
