Q Shelter is offering this two-part unique training for new and experienced workers who want to be empowered with more skills to manage working through this housing crisis.
Applying a Housing First approach in the absence of enough housing.
Presented by: Michelle Debert, Sector Capacity Lead at Q Shelter
This interactive and practical training will equip workers with knowledge on what a Housing First approach is, how to apply the lens in the absence of Housing First programs/enough housing stock and what evidence-based techniques to apply to secure better outcomes for the people we support.
You will learn:
- What is housing first and how did it start
- What are the principles and what to do when you cannot work aligned with them
- What happens when a housing first approach is not applied
- Practical tips and tricks to navigate the sector in a housing first way, examples of housing first working, evidence based techniques and approaches to try and how to work in the current reality.
- Transferable skills to assist you throughout your career regardless of what area you work in.
- How to compartmentalise what you can control, what you can’t, and what is within your capacity to influence.
Case Note Writing Workshop
Presented by: Dr Fiona Oates PhD, BSW | Senior Lead – Service Integration & Development (based in Cairns)
This interactive workshop equips participants with tools and techniques to elevate their case note writing. It focuses on:
- Structuring notes effectively using an assessment-based framework.
- Writing concise, accurate, and impactful notes without losing critical information.
- Ensuring respectful, person-centred documentation that upholds client dignity.
Both session includes real-life examples, practical exercises, and a Q&A segment where participants can discuss their challenges. Handouts and frameworks provided will serve as ongoing resources for improved practices.
