Applying a Housing First approach in the absence of enough housing.

Presented by: Michelle Debert, Sector Capacity Lead at Q Shelter

This interactive and practical training will equip workers with knowledge on what a Housing First approach is, how to apply the lens in the absence of Housing First programs/enough housing stock and what evidence-based techniques to apply to secure better outcomes for the people we support.

You will learn:

  • What is housing first and how did it start
  • What are the principles and what to do when you cannot work aligned with them
  • What happens when a housing first approach is not applied
  • Practical tips and tricks to navigate the sector in a housing first way, examples of housing first working, evidence based techniques and approaches to try and how to work in the current reality.
  • Transferable skills to assist you throughout your career regardless of what area you work in.
  • How to compartmentalise what you can control, what you can’t, and what is within your capacity to influence.

Case Note Writing Workshop

Presented by: Dr Fiona Oates PhD, BSW | Senior Lead – Service Integration & Development (based in Cairns)

This interactive workshop equips participants with tools and techniques to elevate their case note writing. It focuses on:

- Structuring notes effectively using an assessment-based framework.

- Writing concise, accurate, and impactful notes without losing critical information.

- Ensuring respectful, person-centred documentation that upholds client dignity.
