How to market yourself for careers outside academia
The main challenge that researchers face when it comes to exploring their career options outside of academia is knowing where to start! Having spent many years in university education, it can be daunting to think of leaving the safety of what you know, and looking for work in industry, the public sector or the charity sector. This webinar helps you make the best use of the skills and experience you’ve gained during your PhD and post-doc. Many, many doctoral graduates have gone on to enjoy diverse and fantastic careers and you should be aware of all the opportunities available to you when transitioning out of academic into the world beyond.
After this session you will be able to:
- Identify the skills you’ve developed during your research degree
- Implement a 5-point plan for transition
- Market yourself as a professional
This session will be delivered by Dr Chris Humphrey, founder of Jobs on Toast website. Chris completed a PhD in Medieval Studies and is the living proof that you can successfully transition into satisfying professional work outside of academia. After working in business management and consulting, he is now a project manager in financial services.
