Antony Robbins - Museum of London, Public Lecture
Event Information
Description
The University of Melbourne is hosting a free public lecture at the State Library Victoria, delivered by Antony Robbins, Director of Communications at the Museum of London.
Antony's talk is entitled "Re-Inventing the Museum."
Antony will talk about the development of the Museum of London augmented reality app, StreetMuseum.
The success of this digital element of the Galleries of Modern London campaign caught everyone by surprise. StreetMuseum was free to download and was marketed as the museum in your pocket.
It was seen as a trail-blazer for the UK cultural sector – and was one of the very first uses of augmented reality in the cultural sector
StreetMuseum attracted new audiences for the Museum of London and, most importantly, helped shift perceptions of it as contemporary and tapped into the zeitgeist.
The app has now achieved around 500,000 downloads and has won several international awards. It has helped began the transformation of the museum in the eyes of Londoners from a rather old fashioned and slightly worthy local museum into something truly world class.
Antony will talk about the app’s development warts and all and set out some of the hard-won lessons learnt.
The lecture will be held at the State Library Victoria in the Village Roadshow theatrette. The talk will start at 5 sharp, so please arrive at 4.45 to ensure a seat.
The event will be followed by refreshments served until 6.30.
Lecture and refreshements are held in association with the Victorian Museum Awards, hosted by Museums Australia (Victoria).
