Antenatal Physiotherapy
Overview
Please book to attend this session from 22 weeks of pregnancy.
During this two hour face-to-face session, our Women's Health Physiotherapist will teach you practical skills to support you in avoiding and managing common pregnancy-related musculoskeletal challenges. Topics include:
- Activity and exercise in pregnancy: Why? What kind? How much?
- Pregnancy related Low back pain and pelvic girdle pain including pubic symphysis, Sacroiliac joint and sciatic pain
- Bladder, bowels and the pelvic floor during pregnancy
- Carpal tunnel and wrist pain
- Swelling, posture and sleep
- Abdominal muscle separation or DRAM in pregnancy
- Early postnatal recovery including during each time period of 0-6 weeks, 6-12 weeks and 12+ weeks, return to activity and exercise, helping avoid common post natal issues like back pain with feeding and pelvic floor muscle recovery
The session is designed as your first port of call for any Physiotherapy-related issues in pregnancy. At the end of the class there is opportunity for a brief individual discussion with the physiotherapist and a follow up appointment can be organised as required. A postnatal physiotherapy group session is also available to support your recovery in the first few months after the birth of your baby - you can ask more about this during this antenatal session.
