An Afternoon with Marion on the River
Event Information
Description
Join us for an Afternoon with Marion on the River to add yourself, a friend or a colleague to Marion's List.
Marion’s List is a public register of women in Australian architecture and the built environment disciplines, launched by Parlour (in November 2016).
We will be gathering as a group on the Brisbane River for afternoon tea, to encourage women to write their entries, and provide an opportunity for a welcoming and informal catch up between people in the industry.
Free to attend, open to all!
FAQ
What is it:
Marion's List aims to:
- Raise the profile of women in the profession more generally,
- Act as a resource for event organizers looking for expert commentary at talks, conferences, on juries and in teaching positions.
Marion’s List is named in honour of Marion Mahony Griffin (1871–1961), the trailblazing Chicago architect who made a substantial contribution to Australian architecture, one of the first licenced female architects in the world. Though highly regarded as an architectural illustrator, she was often overlooked or side-lined, facing many of the problems that continue to impact women architects less visible in the public sphere.
Marion’s List is user generated - as in, its up to you to write your own entry!

But why?
Marion's List has been live for over a year now, and we personally know MANY talented Queensland women who are not on there yet.
Why not seize the day and spend the afternoon writing together? If you're like us and need a little motivation to write the bio you've been meaning to do for the last year, this is your chance!
Help each other with writer's block, and meet other women working in architecture you haven't met yet.
The group write-in is aimed at being encouraging, inclusive and supportive, and maybe a little celebratory. (Go us!) EmAGN knows the architecture community is made up of a diverse range of people, and we strongly encourage members of underrepresented communities to come along.
Ok, so what do I need:
Nothing except your name, a headshot and some enthusiasm!
Got a laptop? Bring it along... but if not, don't sweat it. A group of us will be there with laptops and we are keen to work together!
The cafe has free wifi, and not to mention a spread of afternoon tea to share.
But what about the kids?
Bring them along! The cafe is also dog friendly, so fur babies also welcome.
Lastly...
If you’re reading this and thinking, “ummm, I'm not sure, I haven't really done anything to write about." Stop. If you are a woman working in the architecture industry then you are in.
Emerging or established, academic, practitioner or involved in other ways, we encourage all to join in.
Ok, I'm in!
Registration's aren't compulsory but appreciated so we can keep an eye on numbers. If you don't book, don't let that stop you – just come along on the day.
Already have a Marion's List profile? Come along to help others out, meet new people and encourage others to sign up.
