Defence Member and Family Support (DMFS) are would like to host The Cuppacumbalong Foundation in Sale. The Cuppacumbalong Foundation run a successful Defence Family Blacksmithing program that travels interstate from the ACT to support local communities.

The Cuppacumbalong Foundation will deploy to Sale in their very own custom build mobile workshop - The Big Black Truck.

The Big Black Truck - a fully self-contained 4WD capable truck with a custom built workshop trailer that can be deployed within a community offering a variety of knifemaking and blacksmith workshops developed by Tharwa Valley Forge. The Truck has its own solar power system and requires limited infrastructure to operate.

Defence Family Blacksmithing has been successfully operating for the past 4 years in the ACT. This mobile, community outreach program has been designed to take the ACT program into other defence communities offering the same intergenerational program.

The Big Black Truck

The program is for family pairs consisting of a veteran and a young person aged 12-16 years, undertaking a blacksmithing course through the experienced team from Tharwa Valley Forge. The program aims to provide opportunities for people to slow down, connect and focus through the process of making.

We do not currently have any dates due to funding and gauging interest.

Each course (day) will consist of small groups made up of 4 family pairs allowing the dedicated and well-trained tutors the ability to provide intensive instruction while participants create something lasting.

Each day will require all families to undertake the same activity. Each course is a full day, running from 9am - 4pm.
