Event description

Description

By 2021, experts predict that Amazon will account for half of all purchases made online in the United States (now that’s an extreme amount of growth!). With a market-capital size equivalent to the 12th biggest economy in the world, what are the implications of Amazon’s presence on the Australian economy? Even before Amazon opened its global doors down under, companies and entrepreneurs have questioned what this means for local business.

Now its virtual doors are open, Amazon has made headlines for numerous reasons; from disrupting the retail industry with a competitive business model to leaving customers dissatisfied over Christmas by not meeting delivery demands.

With all the hype about Amazon in the Australian market, there are still so many questions left unanswered. Is Amazon here to stay? Is its presence in Australia a good or bad thing for business? How can local businesses stay competitive in an already saturated retail market?

At our panel Amazon and its Impact on the Australia Business Ecosystem, hear Mark Baartse, Chief Marketing Officer of Showpo, explain how Aussie businesses are responding to the launch of Amazon. Mark will also give you some expert insight into the future of the eCommerce market and what small and large retailers may need to prepare for.

Matt launched Fromm and CoCircle in the belief that a co-operative model of distributed and autonomous specialists is the future of a new way of doing business. A future that is decentralised, distributed, collaborative and, therefore, a whole lot more effective for the world we’re currently living in (and the tomorrow we’re rocketing into).

Prior to launching Fromm and CoCircle, Matt was Head of Digital Strategy for six and half years at One Green Bean, Australia’s most awarded PR agency over that period. In the space of a few years, he nurtured the One Green Bean social media team from a department of one to one of the largest in Australia.

Always looking to evolve at the speed of change, Matt developed and launched One Green Bean’s influencer co-creation platform, Crowd Atlas (now called CoMaker) as a unique approach to influencer marketing and the emerging Creator Economy.

An award-winning communications strategist with over 20 years industry experience across Advertising, Direct Marketing, PR, Digital and Social, and at agencies such as Omon, Saatchi & Saatchi, Weiden + Kennedy and Holler, Matt has advised some of the world’s biggest brands on their social, content and communications strategies.
