About this event

This one day training will present community workers with information about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) in the ACT and Australia and will introduce participants to harm reduction approaches to use with clients, as well as information about the ACT ATOD service system including referrals.

The training will seek to provide participants with:

  • Improved knowledge of ATOD use and trends in the ACT/Australia
  • Improved knowledge on ATOD and harm reduction strategies to share with your clients
  • Improved confidence in working with people ATOD issues

This training is being provided by the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Association ACT (ATODA), in conjunction with the Youth Coalition of the ACT and ACT Shelter.

The training includes:

Introduction to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in Australia and the ACT and value and attitudes to people who use drugs

Update on alcohol, cannabis, smoking/e-cigarettes and nitrous oxide (nangs) and harm reduction strategies

Update on psycho-stimulants – MDMA (ecstasy), methamphetamines (ice) and cocaine and harm reduction strategies

Update on opioids, benzodiazepines and overdose prevention and harm reduction strategies as well as information relating to screening and brief intervention.

As part of the training, participants will receive refreshments and light lunch and also a PDF of the training materials.
