About this event

The AFTRS Library Presents 50th Anniversary Screening program is a celebration of feature films that have been made by AFTRS Alumni. This program shines a spotlight on the wonderful legacy of our screen practitioners, whose work continues to inspire. This month will are showcasing:

SOMERSAULT (dir: Cate Shortland, 2004)

Cate Shortland studied directing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School in 2000 and has since gone on to write and director a number of international award-winning films and television series.

Her works include The Secret Life of Us (2001 – 2003), The Silence (2006), The Slap (2011), Lore (2013), The Devil’s Playground (2014), The Kettering Incident (2016), Berlin Syndrome (2017) and Black Widow (2021).

This event celebrates her first feature film Somersault (2004) which premiered at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival in Un Certain Regard and won 13 AFI Awards including Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
