Rachel Perkins, a woman of the Arrernte and Kalkadoon nations, was the first winner of the Australian Film Television and Radio School’s Indigenous Program Scholarship (1995) and continues to be at the forefront of the Australian filmmaking industry.
Her many achievements include being a founder of the Blackfella Films production company, serving as Commissioner with the Australian Film Commission,and being president of the AIATSIS Foundation.
Her many works include Blood Brothers (1993), One Night the Moon (2001), First Australians (2008), Bran Nue Day (2010), Mabo (2012), Redfern Now (2012-2013), Jasper Jones (2017) and season one of Mystery Road (2018).
This event celebrates her directorial debut Radiance, written by Louis Nowra and based on his 1993 play of the same name. Released in 1998, it went on to win numerous awards at festivals and critic circles around Australia. The film is also notable for being an early cinematography credit for acclaimed filmmaker Warwick Thornton.
