About this Event

The WiFi is in its golden age, thanks to IoT boom and price drop in consumer devices like mobiles, PDAs and laptops. This benefits society but also increases the attack surface multifold. Unlike the past, WiFi threats can’t be ignored anymore. Both Red and Blue Teams must know about the threats in-depth, to protect their organization from the attackers. In this training, we start with the basics of WIFi and cover the most important attack/defense tactics of WiFi to date including the latest WiFi attacks and standards like 802.11ac/ad/ah and WPA3. We will use cloud labs and WiFi equipment to practice the latest attacks and defense.

Course Content:

Day 1

  • WiFi Basics: Physical layers, Channels, Bands
  • Newer features: MIMO, MU-MIMO, Beamforming
  • WiFi standard and important amendments 802.11a/b/g/n
  • Latest standards: 802.11ac/ad/ah
  • Monitoring channels, Sniffing traffic
  • WiFi Traffic Analysis, Understanding 802.11 Protocol
  • Understanding WiFi Security: Open, WPA/WPA2-PSK, WPA/WPA2-EAP
  • Understanding and Cracking WPA/WPA2 Personal and Enterprise
  • Latest WPA/WPA2 attacks - KRACK attack, PMKID attack
  • Conventional Attacks: Rogues Devices, Evil Twins, DoS Attacks, MITM, Wi-Fi Protected Setup
  • Advanced Enterprise Attacks - 802.1x, PEAP/TTLS (GTC,PAP,CHAP,MSCHAPv2), PEAP Relay

Day 2

  • Attacking the Wireless Client - Honeypots and Hotspot attacks, Karma attacks, WiFishing, MAC Randomization
  • Building custom WiFi sniffer/pentest platform
  • WPA3 standard and discovered attacks
  • Custom affordable WiFi Deception, Defense and Distributed WiFi sniffing
  • Enterprise Wi-Fi Worms, Backdoors and Botnet
  • Leveraging ELK for macro/micro analysis
  • Checklists and cheat sheets for conducting a WiFi pentest

Trainer Bio:

Nishant Sharma is a Researcher and Technical Manager at Pentester Academy and Attack Defense. He is also the Architect at Hacker Arsenal where he leads the development of multiple gadgets for WiFi pentesting such as WiMonitor, WiNX and WiMini. He also handles technical content creation and moderation for Pentester Academy TV. He has 7+ years of experience in information security field including 5+ years in WiFi security research and development. He has conducted WiFi Pentesting training at Blackhat USA. He has also delivered other trainings/workshops at HITB Amsterdam/Singapore, OWASP NZ day, DEFCON USA villages. He has presented/published his work at Blackhat USA/Asia Arsenal, DEFCON USA/China, Wireless Village, Packet Village and IoT village. Prior to joining Pentester Academy, he worked as a firmware developer and contributed in developing new features for the enterprise-grade WiFi APs and maintaining the state of the art WIPS solution. He has a Master degree in Information Security from IIIT Delhi. He has also published peer-reviewed academic research on HMAC security. His areas of interest include WiFi and IoT security, AD security, forensics and cryptography.
