Adelaide Megagames Presents: Watch The Skies!

The existence of extraterrestrial life was secretly confirmed by intelligence services across the globe decades ago.

Despite one or two minor 'incidents' there has been little contact with the aliens. We don't bother them and they don't bother us. Until now.

Something has changed, and the aliens have become much bolder. Sightings have increased and the public have been demanding to know the truth.

As the nations of the Earth scramble to develop ways to defend themselves, one burning question remains -- why are they here?

A megagame is a blend of a board game, a roleplaying game and a social experiment, where players will assume the roles of important figures within the setting, playing out a scenario over the course of a single day in a turn-based game.

A core part of the megagame experience is driven by player creativity. Participants are given a great deal of freedom when it comes to problem-solving, allowing them to respond to situations and events in any way they see fit. This approach to game facilitation ensures that even repeat runs of the same game will often play out in completely new and unexpected ways.

While a megagame shares a lot of the same elements as LARP and other roleplaying games, players do not adopt a character so much as they play as themselves assuming their chosen role -- such as a head of state, diplomat, military commander, etc. Of course, you're still welcome to dive into the world of the game by dressing up or inventing a persona if you wish! But the game does not require you to do so.

Set in the early 2000s, Watch The Skies revolves around how the nations of the Earth respond to the arrival of alien visitors. How long will they be able to conceal the true nature of these strange sightings from the public? And how will the citizens of the planet respond when the truth is revealed?

Players will participate in teams of 3, 4 or 5 people; acting either as leaders of Earth's sovereign nations, reporters for the Global Network News or the mysterious alien visitors.

There are 40 player roles in Watch The Skies, consisting of Sovereign Nations, Alien Visitors and the Global Network News.

Sovereign Nations (4 players per team)

These players will manage one of Earth's major nations, each with their own goals and motivations. In addition to trying to conceal the evidence of extraterrestrial life from the world, these teams will need to navigate the world's geopolitical landscape, as old rivalries and international crises could threaten global stability.

There are eight Sovereign Nations that are playable in Watch The Skies:

1. Brazil
2. China
3. France
4. India
5. Japan
6. Russia
7. United Kingdom
8. United States of America

Each Sovereign Nation consists of 4 unique player roles:

• Head of State
  This player will coordinate the efforts of their team and their nation. They will be responsible for brokering alliances with other teams and may be called upon to represent humanity to the Alien Visitors.
• Foreign Minister
  This player will be their team's representative at the United Nations, where they will confront international crises and work to combat rising terror across the globe as the awareness of alien life begins to spread.
• Chief of Defense
  This player will control their nation's military assets; overseeing their deployment across the globe, protecting their nation's skies from UFOs and, if necessary, deploying their nuclear arsenal.
• Chief Scientist
  This player will lead their team's efforts to understand the Earth's visitors, striving to learn what they can and best prepare their nation for whatever the future may hold.

Global Network News (3 players)

In these times of chaos and uncertainty, the citizens of the world need to know what is happening around them. GNN has taken this mission to heart, striving to deliver the latest developments on global events without fear of government censorship.

The GNN team is comprised of:

• Chief Editor
• 2x Field Reporters

The Chief Editor will collate the information collected by their Field Reporters and give a brief update on world events each Turn.

Alien Visitors (5 players)

Little is known about these mysterious beings, but there is one thing we know for sure... they aren't of this world! Are their intentions peaceful, or do they seek to do us harm?

There are no unique roles for the Alien team, all player roles are equivalent.
