About this event

Our ‘Active Supervision’ workshop begins by unpacking the regulatory requirements for children to be protected and kept safe when attending an education and care service.

We’ll explore the six (6) supervision skills that every educator needs to master and discuss how you can embed these in your daily practice. We will also examine the factors that can negatively impact the provision of high quality supervision.

During the workshop you’ll analyse real life situations and collaboratively determine what strategies could be implemented to avoid potentially catastrophic outcomes.

The workshop concludes with a detailed examination of the risk assessment and management cycle where you’ll learn how to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement safety strategies relevant to your context.

About the Speakers:

Steve Moore

Steve is an experienced outside school hours care (OSHC) practitioner with over 16 years’ experience working in the sector.

Immediately after finishing high school, he commenced as a casual educator at small church-based service. It was nothing more than a part time job as he studied commercial law at university. After graduating, he realised the legal profession wasn’t for him and his passion was working with school age children. Throwing himself into the service he became the Assistant Coordinator, then the Educational Leader then the service Manager. His career has taken him far and wide.

Steve’s connection with Firefly HR dates back to the beginning – he was their first successful placement in 2018. Prior to joining Firefly HR he worked for ACECQA, initially as a facilitator in the Quality Support Program, and then as a senior member of the Sector Information Services team.

He is a Parkrunner, enjoys building Lego, and is the undisputed handball champion of the universe!

Kylie Keane

Get ready to be inspired by an incredible presenter and passionate playworker, Kylie Keane, who will lead you on a journey of discovery and excellence in the field of Out of School Hours Care (OSHC). With a decade of experience in OSHC, she has established herself as a leader and an Educational Leader, driving her teams to exceed expectations and achieve excellence in their work.

As a firm advocate for children and young people, she has dedicated her career to promoting Play and Playwork and has become a respected authority in the field. Her expertise has led her to be appointed as the Early Childhood Australia ACT State Committee Chair and the ACT National Outside School Hours Services Alliance representative, where she has tirelessly championed the importance of quality OSHC programs.

Her passion for Playwork has taken her on 3 Study Tours of the US and UK, immersing herself in all things Play and Playwork. She is excited to be presenting at the International Play Association Conference in the UK in June, where she will share how Playwork has become viewed as a "quality" approach to ECEC in Australia. She firmly believes that once you have an understanding of Playwork, you cannot "un-see" it, and there is no other way of working with children.
