Activate - Training & Campaigns Summit

We are Australia’s national environment organisation. We speak out, show up and act for a world where forests, rivers, people and wildlife thrive. We are proudly independent and funded by donations from our community.

Last year was massive for people power. ACF Community members came together and helped make stopping Adani’s mega-polluting coal mine and supporting the clean energy revolution major issues in the Queensland election.
We know that the only way to beat the organised money of the big polluters is with organised people. And we know that the power of the people is greater than the people in power.
So it’s time to build on the momentum of 2017 and build more powerful community groups willing to stand up and speak out for our rivers, trees, and wildlife.
WHEN: Saturday 17 March, 9AM - 5PM WHERE: A.H.E.P.A House, West End TICKETS: $20 covers training materials, lunch and snacks

Why are we doing this? Right now, a pollution and extinction crisis threatens the web of life. We need to counter the big polluters’ stranglehold on democracy and shift away from polluting fuels like coal. So much is already lost. Our children will not see the animals now extinct, the ancient forests now clear-felled or the seasons as they used to be.
But people made this crisis and we can solve it.
Change happens when ordinary people get involved and engaged and come together to make it happen. People power gave women the right to vote and stopped slavery. People saved the Franklin River from becoming a dam. People protected our Great Barrier Reef – some 50 years ago – from oil and mining.
For generations, people have come together to make life better for those who follow. Now it’s our turn!
To change the story and the system, we need to build connected and active community power. Networks of people with the desire to make a difference, united with many voices – that’s what it takes to change the world.
Is this for you? Sick of arguing with strangers on the internet? Want shake things up – but not sure how? Dismayed at what’s broken in the word, but not sure what you can do to mend it? Keen to learn skills and connect with people from your local community?
Come to Activate and you’ll walk out energised, skilled up and connected with others, ready to be part of powerful national campaigns and to run local campaigns of your own.

Together, we’re building powerful, organised communities to create long-term change. Local ACF Community groups that are part of our national campaign strategy are an integral driver of our plan to fix the system. Together, we’re taking on the big, structural challenges – the laws, policies, institutions, decision and practices – to create a system that does right by people and nature.
Not convinced? Last year we held a similar training and launched 4 local groups across Brisbane. Three months after the training, we asked participants what had changed for them – here’s what they said:
<UL>
<LI>
"I don’t feel powerless anymore – not alone."
</LI>
</UL>
<UL>
<LI>
"Having the courage to step into places I never thought I’d step into."
</LI>
</UL>
<UL>
<LI>
"Realising that people power works!"
</LI>
</UL>
<UL>
<LI>
"Moving from feeling overwhelmed and fearful to motivated and hopeful!"
</LI>
</UL>
<UL>
<LI>
"Meeting like-minded people, seeing the resolve and determination they have and knowing that we have strength in numbers."
</LI>
</UL>
<UL>
<LI>
"A massive boost to my confidence that I can do this. The easy to understand skills that I now have. The network that I have built out of the really interesting, diverse and skilled people, both ACF staff and the other attendees."
</LI>
