Date and time
Location
Online event
Info sessions for retailers, hospitality, suppliers and community organisations impacted by the ACT Plastics Ban.
About this event
The ACT Government is banning further single-use plastics in 2022.
From 1 July 2022, the following items are prohibited from sale, supply or distribution in the ACT:
- single-use plastic straws (including bioplastic alternatives)*
- cotton buds with plastic sticks
- all oxo-degradable plastics.
*An exemption allows people who need them to access plastic straws.
As you may be aware, barrier bags were raised during consultation earlier in the year, however these have not been included in the Tranche 2 ban, but may be considered in the future.
Reminder
Single-use plastics items already banned in the ACT:
- single-use plastic cutlery and drink stirrers (including bioplastic alternatives)
- expanded polystyrene takeaway food and beverage containers
- lightweight plastic shopping bags (less than 35 microns in thickness).

HELP FOR BUSINESSES
The National Retail Association has been engaged by the ACT Government to assist businesses to understand and comply with existing Plastics Bans in the ACT. The NRA team are specialists in plastics bans across Australia, and the implications of these bans for businesses.
INFO SESSIONS
We are hosting 2 information sessions, designed for retailers, hospitality, suppliers or community organisations directly impacted by the ACT ban to receive an overview of the ban, ask us questions and clarify their obligations.
You are welcome to come along to any session to ask your questions, but you do not need to attend every session as content will be repeated and any critical news or updates will be relayed via the link below, not these sessions. If time, we can also answer questions about bans in other states.
Sessions are maximum 1 hour and held via Zoom. All resources and sessions are free.
Please ensure each member of your team registers here so we can plan for numbers.
