ACIITC National Forum: National Home Care and CIO Forum Committee
Event Information
About this Event
The Aged Care Industry Information Technology Council (ACIITC) is hosting a national forum that will provide an overview of recent research undertaken by ACIITC, update on new project and partnerships with the Digital Health Cooperative Research Centre and provide insights into a recently funded project which is undertaking an environmental scan of the digital maturity of the Aged and Community Care sector in Australia. The forum will also provide the opportunity for industry to be informed and provide feedback on the Evaluation of Innovation & Technology Capabilities and Readiness of the Aged and Community Care Industry.
At this important event you will have the opportunity to be part of shaping the direction of this important national research endeavour which is aimed directly at providing a national strategic direction on investment in Innovation and Technology across the aged and community care industry.
This meeting will also provide an update to the members of the two groups and interested parties on the current focus and direction of ACIITC.
BACKGROUND TO THE MEETING
In 2016, the Aged Care Industry Information Technology Council (ACIITC) commissioned Australia’s first Technology Roadmap for Aged Care which was published the following year. The Technology Roadmap for Aged Care in Australia was informed by consultation with the Aged and Community Care sector and with organisations providing technology to the sector, as well as by a review of the literature.
Given the speed of technological change, ACIITC commissioned an updated review in 2019. This evidence-based report is based on a search of major research databases and of the grey literature, focusing on the period 2016 – 2019, updating the first review that identified research studies published 2011-2016. Dr George Margelis, ACIITC Chair, will provide a summary of the report outcomes.
Since the release of the Aged and Community Sector Technology and Innovative Practice – A Report on what the Research and Evidence is indicating further research and collaborations opportunities have been identified and actions.
In March 2020, ACIITC joined leading collaborative partnership with Digital Health Cooperative Research that is working to resolve many of the Aged and Community Care sector’s most critical issues through the greater leveraging of digital technologies and innovations. This partnership represents a significant commitment to advance digital health in the Aged and Community Care Industry in Australia. Together we want to help drive digital engagement in the age and community services sector by boosting R&D in digital technology.
Isobel Frean, Senior Consultant Digital Health CRC, will elaborate on this leading collaboration during the event.
In March 2020, ACIITC has been funded by the Department of Health to provide an Evaluation of Innovation & Technology Capabilities and Readiness of the Aged and Community Care Industry . The objectives of this project are to deliver: an environmental scan, an aged & community care industry survey, and a technology vendor survey culminating in an evaluation report. The project is aiming to understand aged care industry innovation and technology capabilities and readiness in the following areas :
- Business and administrative systems;
- Reporting and online access to government;
- Surveillance and monitoring technologies;
- Telehealth; and
- Support for safety and care in the home via a range of smart technologies.
The ACIITC project team comprising of Ms. Anne Livingstone, Dr Kate Barnett OAM, an Mr Gavin Tomlins will provide an overview of the research project and invite input and questions from forum participants. This is an important opportunity to be involved in this national activity.
