ACET Workshop 1: Electrification of Transport, Buildings & Other Sectors
This is the first in a series of four workshops bringing together key players in Canberra's energy innovation ecosystem.
Workshop 1: Electrification of Transport, Buildings & Other Sectors
Explore pathways to comprehensive electrification across ACT's transport, residential, and commercial sectors. Connect organisations and companies across a range of sectors to identify practical solutions for electrification challenges in the ACT.
About This Workshop
The first in a series of four workshops run by CBRIN as part of the Accelerating Canberra's Energy Transition (ACET) program, delivered with support from the ACT Government under the Energy Innovation Fund.
We're bringing together 30–40 people from across Canberra's energy ecosystem to work through electrification challenges from multiple angles at once. The format is interactive and facilitated. Expect structured small-group discussions, whole-room conversations, and plenty of space for the informal connections that happen over morning tea and lunch.
The workshop is facilitated by CBRIN's collaborative innovation team using techniques refined across hundreds of workshops to make sure the session is productive and everyone's expertise gets heard.
Who Will Be There
Experts and those working closely on electrification in the ACT:
- Researchers and academics — energy systems, sustainable buildings, transport electrification, battery storage
- Industry practitioners — utilities, network operators, sustainable builders, heat pump installers, EV companies, energy retailers
- Startups and SMEs developing products or services supporting the energy transition
- Government — energy policy, climate strategy, transport planning, building regulation
- Community organisations — energy equity, consumer advocacy, sustainability, community energy
We're deliberately mixing sectors so you meet people outside your usual circles.
What We'll Cover
The event will begin with Key Stakeholder speakers from Industry, Academia, and Government to set the scene for the workshop.
Topics may include practical barriers to electrifying homes and commercial buildings, transport electrification from private vehicles to public transit, grid readiness for increased electrical demand, equitable access to electrification for lower-income households and renters, connecting research with industry needs, and new business opportunities in the transition.
The conversation is shaped by who's in the room and what they're working on.
Expected Outcomes
- New connections between people working on different parts of the electrification challenge
- Fresh perspectives on familiar problems from viewpoints that don't usually converge
- Identified opportunities for partnerships and areas where research and industry can work more closely
- Momentum - each workshop will inform ongoing Steering Committee discussions about the future of the ACT's energy innovation ecosystem
After the workshop, CBRIN will produce a public summary of key themes and outcomes, shared through our website and newsletter. A detailed internal report with anonymised feedback goes to the ACET project team and the Energy Innovation Fund Board. Participant IP remains with its creators, standard across all CBRIN programs.
Registration
Free event. Registration is open but places are limited to keep conversations productive.
If you know someone who should be in the room, please share this page or pass on the link.
CBRIN's ACET Program
CBRIN's Accelerating Canberra's Energy Transition project (ACET) is funded by the ACT Government through the Energy Innovation Fund and delivered by CBRIN in partnership with ANU, University of Canberra, UNSW Canberra, CIT, and NEVCE. The full program includes four thematic workshops, a Zero-Emissions-Transport Hackathon, business support for energy startups and SMEs, and an Energy Innovation Showcase in late 2026.
