Accidental Counsellor - Westonia (Old School Building)
Accidental Counsellor is for individuals who would like to be able to safely and effectively support others who are in distress.
The Accidental Counsellor workshop aims to provide people who find themselves in a position of supporting somebody who may be experiencing stress and or distress but doesn’t necessarily have formal qualifications or experience in doing so. Whether it be in our personal or professional lives, people often find themselves equipped with technical or task-oriented skills and knowledge. Good listening skills, compassion, empathy, and the ability to recognise signs of deteriorating mental health are important, but sometimes lacking.
Being equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage difficult conversations gives participants a framework for managing conflict, stress, or distress when engaged with another while having the awareness to uphold personal and professional boundaries.
You will learn how to help someone identify their strengths, that assist them to manage their problems better, and easier. You will learn how to reframe their thinking to give them a different perspective on something that previously painted a negative picture.
The workshop is open to anyone (15+) and no pre-existing skills or knowledge are required.
