Accidental Counsellor – Adult Workshop
Accidental Counsellor is a 1-day workshop that supports those who often find themselves offering emotional support, such as educators, healthcare professionals, and support workers. The training builds confidence, practical skills, healthy boundaries, and self-care practices. Participants receive a workbook on the day.
Session 1:
- What is / isn't counselling?
- Personal characteristics of an Accidental Counsellor
- What effects our responses to others?
- Why we feel the way we do?
- Definitions of strong emotions
- Not taking things personally
- Different communication styles
- Overview of listening skills
- Understanding crisis
Session 2:
- Communication barriers, process and rules
- Acknowledgment
- Silence
- Conflict
- Summarising
- Reframing
- Stress, anxiety, well-being, suicide awareness
- Healthy boundaries, co-dependency, self-righting
- Self-care, mindfulness
