New Product Leaders are often expected to take the leadership reigns with little or no guidance or relevant training.

Whilst highly skilled in product design it is becoming more important to focus on the leadership mindsets and skills that support product development. We are providing you with the opportunity to learn from skilled facilitators and other Product People in a creative, open and safe environment.

This course is designed specifically for senior Product Managers and new Product Leaders who want to:

  • Develop effective leadership skills to manage upwards and lead teams to success,
  • Negotiate the complexity of stakeholder demands
  • Rise above the day-to-day of product design and development to practising leadership

This is an intensive, experiential 3 day learning program, focused on teaching the principles of adaptive leadership. You will have an opportunity to share your experiences and discuss how you'll integrate the learned principles into a new or existing Product Leadership role.

The program focuses on building the mindsets, the skills and capacity to understand and fully step into a Product Leadership role.

Program outline

Day 1 & 2: Understanding Self

Theme: Personal Carriage

  • To gain a deeper sense of self awareness and consider what is required to work with your full potential

Outcomes:

  • A clear sense of purpose, insight into your mindsets, and behaviours that influence your interactions
  • Awareness of your strengths, and the circumstances which enable or inhibit you from maximising your potential

Day 3 & 4: Working in the System

Theme : Trust and Boundaries; Authority and Power

  • To identify and work with the dynamics in the broader team and organisation

Outcomes:

  • Heightened skills in listening, advocating and inquiring and to make progress
  • Capacity to diagnose complex systems
  • Ability to work with diversity of thinking, approaches and values to support learning and creativity
  • Opening up the opportunities for deliberate collaboration across departments and stakeholders

Day 5 & 6: Stepping into Product Leadership

Theme: Agile and Adaptation; Culture

  • To integrate all learning and transfer it into a Product Leadership role

Outcomes:

  • A deeper sense of your own authority and power across the organisation
  • Enabling personal and collective learning to avoid repetition and enhance innovation
  • Ability to design, shape and support the product culture
  • Capability to role model appropriate product behaviours
  • Greater authority over the product vision, strategy and performance

Product Managers are able to gain unique skills as they step out of their traditional assumptions and focus on expanding their knowledge of themselves, their organisation and their significant role within it.

Trainers

Terri Soller

Terri is a highly experienced Leadership Development practitioner, thought leader, teacher and consultant of leadership and adaptive change. With a background in leading large systems transformation she has over 20 years' experience in designing and delivering highly impactful leadership development interventions in the government, corporate, and community sectors in Australia and internationally. Her work has primarily been with senior leaders and executives to explore, understand, improve and transform their leadership practice and build the capacity of the whole system to adapt to new challenges and opportunities. She approaches the work of transformation from a holistic perspective, integrating a number of theories and practices related to human and organisational development, psychology, system thinking, and adult learning.

She is an experienced teacher, consultant, executive coach and holds a Bachelor of Science (Industrial Psychology), Master’s Degree in Organisational Development and certification from Harvard University (The Art and Practice of Leadership), and is committed to her ongoing learning, attending seminars and workshops that keep her on her own learning edge.

Adrienne Tan

Adrienne is a highly experienced senior product and business leader with over 20 years of Product Management experience across multiple industries. Her expertise extends across various aspects of Product Management such as product strategy and product planning, product discovery, design and development. She specialises in product leadership with significant ability to wrangle stakeholders. Adrienne is experienced in managing, coaching and nurturing teams of product managers, senior product managers and tech leads. She also has a track record developing a growing, profitable consulting, training and conference business with a global reach.

Adrienne has spent the last 15 years raising the Product Management profession in Australia through free community events and coaching sessions. She holds a BA in Industrial Relations, Master of Economics (Social Science) from the University of Sydney.
