Learn how to provide essential mental health support with a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in this two day in-person training. Adults who complete the course become Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders).
The AMHFA course teaches participants how to provide initial support to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until professional support is received or the crisis resolves.
Please note that this training runs for two days, from 9-4:30 on Friday 3 and Monday 6 May. You must attend both days.
Who is this training for?
- CIT staff who want to better support colleagues or community members experiencing a mental health problem or crisis, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- CIT staff who want to learn about mental health in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander context.
What will this training teach you?
In this training, you will:
- Learn to recognise and respond to the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adults.
- Learn how to offer initial support and information and encourage a person to seek professional, cultural, and other supports.
- Use practical, evidence-based action plans to approach someone you are concerned about and initiate a conversation about those concerns.
